Patricia pressed her safety badge against the electronic panel. She heard the lock click and opened the door to the law firm where she worked.

It was shortly after six in the morning and as always she was the first at work. She went down the short hallway and entered her office. She frowned and noticed that the huge piles of paper on her desk had not magically become smaller since she had left them the night before.

Has my life really come this far?

She had her morning routine under control. Getting up early, making a quick breakfast for herself and her husband, going to the gym for the morning training. And then arrive at the office, no later than six. This is her small list of assistants' work, which was focused on the whole day. Tight, like clockwork.

A boring clockwork, for four long and arduous years.

Patricia criticized herself for letting these negative thoughts penetrate into her head. She had everything, didn't she? She had a beautiful house, a stylish car, a husband who always supported her and loved her, and an amazing career in a small law firm where she was well on her way to offering a partnership before she turned forty. On the outside, she was envied by all her friends and acquaintances. Because she had everything. Inside, however, this truth felt quite different.
