The Forgery; or, Best Intentions

'The Forgery; or, Best Intentions' is a novel written by G. P. R. James. The story begins by introducing us to Humphrey Scriven, a younger son of a wealthy family who fell in love with and married the daughter of a rich merchant. Scriven became his father-in-law's partner and successor, and his success in business allowed him to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle in St. James's Square with his four children. The family consisted of three daughters who were similar in appearance but had differences in character, and a son who was spoiled and taught to value wealth above all else.
