The Day of the Dog

'The Day of the Dog' is a romantic comedy written by George Barr McCutcheon, telling the tale of a young lawyer who finds himself trapped on a farm by a ferocious bulldog. He had gone there to obtain a signature from the widow of a man to sue other heirs for her proper share of an estate, but upon his arrival, he was met with an unexpected foe. Sparrow the bulldog warns him that he is trespassing, and the lawyer climbs a ladder to escape the dog's wrath.
