"Pamela Giraud: A Play in Five Acts" by Honoré de Balzac is set during the Napoleonic plots of the 19th century. As Napoleon began to gain power, the reign of King Louis XVIII began to falter and, soon enough, diminished entirely. However, in this book, a traitor to the crown is about to be put to death. His lover, Pamela, a woman who is often considered to be below him, is willing to do whatever it takes to save him.
