The Brown Unicorn
The moonlight made the snow crystals on the fir trees glisten like a thousand diamonds. Completely stunned, the gleaming white unicorn mare was leaning over her newborn foal. The young mother just could not believe her foal was so different from all the other unicorn foals - it was brown! It was her first foal. Of course she knew that unicorn foals are born white - unlike horse foals. The mare had never seen a foal like this one before. There was no horn on its forehead. Of course she knew that horns of unicorns only grew with time, but this foal had not even the slightest hint of a horn. Benevolently she saw - maybe because she wanted to see it - a small rise on the forehead of her newborn. What would the other unicorns say to a brown foal? Shaken she wanted to turn away from the foal that was so quite differently as the others. As if the foal had felt this, it looked at its mother with big round eyes. Moved by this, the unicorn mare suddenly felt that she would love this little unicorn and would never leave it.
