The Memoirs of an American Citizen

This novel is set in the time after the American Civil War and in a way is a comment on the never-ending struggle between socialists and capitalists, which continues to this day in the form of Democrats and Republicans. It skilfully depicts life in those times and the characters are well-drawn.
