"Reminiscences of a Pioneer" by Colonel William Thompson

Thompson was an American-Indian fighter and journalist, the editor of multiple newspapers in Oregon and California, having his longest run with the Alturas Plaindealer. However, he wasn't just a fighter. He was also a pioneer in the west when this part of the country was still growing in popularity. In this book, Thomspon recalls his first days out west and during the war, when he stood on land that saw very few people on its ground.
