Travels in Brazil is a travel guide, through which Henry Koster communicates with the readers his knowledge by giving an account of what he had seen and heard in that Northeast Brazil. In addition to amusing the reader with his sense of humor, Koster describes the roots of many bizarre traditions in the country. He could even talk to people and understand what was happening around him unlike most English explorers. The book gives valuable insights about Northeast Brazil.
While in Brazil, Koster began to write books about his experiences that were published in London. His works are considered the most detailed accounts of Northeast Brazil written in English in his period. Koster has managed to preserve and describe the northeastern culture to the rest of the world through his work.
Koster dedicated Travels in Brazil to the famous poet laureate Robert Southey, who was a friend to Koster and also the one to encourage him to write this book, sharing his experiences with everyone around the world.
