Inside Canton

"Inside Canton" is the travel memoir of Dr. Melchior Yvan, an explorer, and a surgeon of the French embassy of Lagrené to China in the years 1844-46. He captures the sight and sounds that he experienced inside Cantonese territory, experiences that range from witnessing Quail Fights and Cricket-matches in gambling dens, to being pickpocketed on the streets, and even a visit to the Mandarin's palace.
