Blood and Sand

"Blood and Sand" by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez is partially inspired by the life of the Sevillian bullfighter Manuel García Cuesta El Espartero, who was killed by a gunshot wound in the Madrid bullring 1894. For Juan Gallardo, a bullfighter from Spain , life seems to have smiled on him. That poor boy from Seville who escaped to fight at the fairs, had made his way as a brave bullfighter . He later triumphed as a matador, arousing the enthusiasm of the public. He now has it all: fame, money, land, women at his feet and a loving and understanding wife. But he meets Mrs. Sol who becomes his lover and everything changes.
