Raamatu kirjeldus

"A Southern Woman Story" is a memoir written by an American Jewish woman from Charleston, South Carolina, who served as a nurse and female administrator at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, Virginia during the American Civil War. The narrative was first published in 1866 in The Cosmopolite, a Baltimore journal, as «Reminiscences of A Southern Hospital. By Its Matron.» A Southern Woman's Story: Life in Confederate Richmond was published in 1879, based on the memoir.

The author, in this memoir, describes her daily life through wartime vignettes, and it remains one of the best sources for understanding upper-class Southern Jewish women's experiences and thoughts before and during the Civil War.
